Capturing the moment: How Evisense makes taking classroom photos easier

On the surface, taking a photo seems simple: open the camera app, click, and you’re done. But when you’re snapping photos of students in the classroom to use as evidence or share with parents, things get tricky. Suddenly, you’re hyper-aware of who’s in the shot, what parents will see, and whether there’s anything identifiable in the background – faces, names on whiteboards, student work. In the moment, it can feel almost impossible to manage all that and still capture the essence of what’s happening.

This was a problem my teacher wife had flagged to me before, and it got me thinking – how could we make this process easier for teachers in our very own Evisense?

We now have two features in Evisense designed specifically to tackle these challenges. The first is a solution that’s been in place since day one: if you tag two or more students in a post and one of those students is marked as Protected, Evisense automatically prevents the post from being shared with parents. This is a lifesaver when you’re juggling names in your head and trying to make sure everything’s in order.

The second feature is newer and addresses what happens after you’ve taken the photo. Sometimes, you’ll discover that a student in the photo can’t have their image shared. No need to panic! Evisense now has built-in photo editing tools to help you fix it. You can crop out students who shouldn’t be in the shot, or if that’s not possible, you can use our blur tool to blur faces, names on whiteboards, or anything else you need to obscure.

These simple tools provide peace of mind. Knowing that you can adjust after taking the photo allows you to focus on capturing the moment, rather than stressing about the details in the background. Hopefully, this makes the whole process a little less stressful for everyone involved—because the last thing teachers need is another thing to worry about!
